HIV@MSD is the monthly newsletter from the MSD Interpharma HIV Team who provides support for the development and implementation of comprehensive HIV/AIDS strategies that are conducted in partnership with many different national programs, with private sector entrepreneurs, and with bilateral organizations. Through our newsletter, we would like to share with you the lessons we have learned from these projects and activities.

"Keep this man alive!" could be the title of this story. It features
an HIV-infected chief mechanic who is so good at his job and so well trained that his boss concluded a deal with an HIV/AIDS specialist to ensure that "his man" would remain highly
productive at work.

The story could end here. However, it would mean forgetting the challenges of keeping him under effective treatment despite repeated changes in therapy due to product shortage at the Centralized National Pharmacy. This was compounded by the
need to hide his HIV status in order to protect him against the high stigma related to the disease that could harm his career and the reputation of the garage

Since 2002, when this mechanic was diagnosed HIV-positive, many companies have seen the need and cost effectiveness to treat ALL their employees and relatives, whatever their rank in the company. HIV policies at the workplace are gaining ground!
