Decentralization of ARVs in Rwanda

Olive Gatesi is more fortunate than most patients

Decentralization Benefiting Rich and Poor
While the decentralization of ARVs in Rwanda has benefited poorer patients like Beata, it has also helped those from higher socioeconomic classes like Olive Gatesi, from Kacyiru. She
was diagnosed HIV-positive in 1994, is District Deputy Mayor of Kigali and president of Kigali-based Rwanda's National Network for People Living with HIV/AIDS. Olive was elected District Deputy Mayor because she was the only one addressing the fight against HIV/AIDS in her election campaign.

She can afford to pay for her own triple therapy treatment, which as of Feb'05, was $25 a month.
