Challenges of decentralization

 

Getting the basic foundations associated with a solid health system back in place is proving a challenge. During the country's genocide in 1994, most of the health infrastructure was destroyed and a significant number of the country's medical professionals killed.

The doctor and pharmacist working at Kabgayi District Hospital, shown here have been trained in managing HIV patients. But the reality is that there are not enough trained medical professionals to share the burden of patients.
