Gikongo Health Center provides the same quality of HIV treatment & care as Butare District Hospital

Working Rural Health Center
Despite its small size, Gikongo Health Center, 70kms from Butare, Rwanda's second largest city, is more advanced than Kibuye District Hospital.

The center, which can only be reached by windswept dirt roads, offers VCT, PMTCT, prophylaxis treatment for opportunistic infections and ARVs.

As of Feb '05, the health facility was monitoring more than 300 HIV-positive patients not yet benefiting from ARVs and over one hundred adults and children on ARVs. On average, it sees about 20 to 30 new HIV positive patients per month.
